My mother , a nurse, said “You’ll
love obstetrics. The delivery room is such a happy place!” How true! My grandmother was a doula and I grew up with
maternity stories. Every mother I assist in delivery reminds me what a
powerful physical and emotional experience birthing a baby is. What a
thrilling profession!
I went to college at Creighton
University in Omaha, medical school at the University of Iowa,
interned at University of Colorado and residency at Fitzsimons Army
Hospital. My husband is a general surgeon. We moved here in 1984 after
medical school. We have 3 sons and 2 daughters , ages 6 to 17, so I can
attest to having been on both sides of the exam table. My hobbies are
laundry and grocery shopping, however I also enjoy hikes, bikes and living
vicariously through my kids' activities.
I think a woman's mental and emotional health is
equally important as the
physical. My patients constantly remind me how hard but exciting it is to be
a woman. “The rooster may crow but the hen delivers the goods! "
