I was born in North Carolina but I lack the telltale accent. My Florida
education must have wiped it from my palate. I graduated cum laude with a
Bachelor in Science degree from Florida State University in 1987. At the
time
FSU did not have a medical school, so I traveled to Gainesville to the
University of Florida College of Medicine. Many people ask where my
allegiance lies, with Florida/Florida State rivalry. I have to say FSU, but
it is actually a win-win situation for me.
In 1992, I graduated from medical school and started my 4-year
residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Tripler Army Medical Center in
Honolulu, Hawaii. I had a scholarship for medical school that obligated a
time in active duty service for each year of paid medical school tuition.
From Hawaii, I was stationed in Heidelberg, Germany for 4 years, where I
achieved the rank of Major. After an honorable discharge in July 2000, I
traveled extensively throughout Europe and eventually settled back in the
continental United States.
You may ask yourself what brought this east coast beach girl to
Colorado Springs. The quick answer is my husband. He and I met while
hiking in Switzerland. The long answer is skiing, mountain biking, hiking
and lack of humidity and bugs! We are definitely here to stay. We will
raise our children with the same love of the outdoors as we have. For now
I am satiated with a tropical beach vacation every now and then.
When searching for a place to practice women’s medicine, I
interviewed with several practices in many western cities and states and
knew instantly that I had found my niche at Women's Associates, PC. I have
always enjoyed all aspects of Obstetrics and Gynecology. It has a
wonderful diversity with equal time in the office, birth center and
operating room. There is a fantastic opportunity for preventative and
curative medicine. In private practice I have found the freedom to balance
both work and time at home with my 2 young children. I feel so very
fortunate to have such a well- rounded life!
